Minneapolis, MN – Spare Key, a Minnesota based non-profit that serves families in Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota and Wisconsin, has reached an historic milestone in the organization’s history.

Effective June 1st, Spare Key will have made housing payments for more families than it did in all of 2012.

At the same time, the organization is currently on track to provide housing assistance to families in 2013 that will equal 1/3 of the entire amount of housing payments in made in its first 15 years of operation.

“This is a remarkable achievement for an organization that has supported more than 1,800 families with housing payments in its sixteen years of operation,” said Erich Mische, Spare Key Executive Director. “With payments nearing $1.8 million, we’re delighted to see our capacity to serve more families increasing each and every day.  This milestone is a testament to the hard work, commitment and support of our donors, volunteers, our past and present Board of Directors and the staff that have supported our efforts through the years.”

Spare Key provides assistance to families with seriously ill or critically injured children by making housing payments on their behalf, allowing parents to remain a key member of the child’s care and recovery team while they are in the hospital or at home.

In 2013, Spare Key expanded its operations to Wisconsin, North Dakota and South Dakota where it is already supporting families in those states through its mission and program.
