Maiden Dixie And Spare Key Band Together To Help Families

Partnership Seeks To Raise Awareness And Raise Funds For Program That Helps Families “Bounce and not Break”

Nashville, TN (June 10, 2014) – Maiden Dixie has joined forces with the Minneapolis based non-profit organization Spare Key to assist the agency in their efforts to serve needy families. Spare Key provides mortgage and rental grants to families with hospitalized critically ill or seriously injured children.  Currently serving families in Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota and Wisconsin, the organization will be expanding into 7 additional states including Michigan, Illinois, Iowa, Oklahoma, Nebraska, Kansas and Missouri in the coming months.

“Since 1997 Spare Key (www.sparekey.org) has served nearly 2,300 families with a critically ill or seriously injured child in the hospital, totaling more than $2.2 million in grants,” said Erich Mische, Spare Key Executive Director. “As our program grows to serve more families, so does the need to raise more awareness and funds for Spare Key.  We are thrilled to partner with Maiden Dixie and harness their passion for music – fans – and community to extend our reach to the states and families we currently serve, as well as those we seek to serve in the future.”

For the members of Maiden Dixie (www.maidendixie.com), the opportunity to use their music as a way to help families comes naturally.  “Jesse (Becker) and I have children of our own and all of us have friends or family members with kids,” said Maiden Dixie’s Drew Sherman. “So having the opportunity to support Spare Key’s mission to help families “Bounce and not Break” is something very near and dear to all of our hearts. A child experiencing a medical crisis is stressful enough on a family and giving parents the gift of time to allow them to focus completely on their child’s care and recovery and not worry about how they’re going to make their next mortgage or rent payment is simply amazing.”

The partnership between Spare Key and Maiden Dixie begins a multi-pronged awareness campaign encompassing exposure in the media and at concert events.  The “Spare Key Boots for Change” campaign highlights the fundraising component of the campaign and will be a featured element on select stops along the band’s 2014 tour.  Music fans will have the opportunity to support Spare Key by simply dropping their spare change into the boots at the Maiden Dixie merchandise booth.

Additional campaign elements, introduced throughout the year, will involve merchandising, promotions will feature families from the local areas that have been a Spare Key recipient.
