“In January 2013, Spare Key expanded into North Dakota, South Dakota, and Wisconsin,” said Erich Mische, Executive Director of Spare Key. “We are pleased to be ahead of schedule with our program and thrilled to have the addition of Matt and Julie to our Board of Directors. They bring passion, community relationships, and a deep understanding of the important work Spare Key is doing to help families ‘Bounce and not Break.’”

Spare Key was founded in 1997 and provides housing payments to families in North Dakota, South Dakota, Wisconsin and Minnesota who have a seriously ill or critically injured child in the hospital. The goal of the program is to allow parents to stay at the hospital as a part of their child’s care and recovery team, as well as to prevent further financial pressures on the family as a result of their child’s medical crisis.

Spare Key has made housing payments for more than 1,900 families totaling nearly $2 million since its inception in 1997.
