The practicality of our mission and its impact is evident in the words of those we serve. The goals Spare Key wishes to attain through our mission are as follows:

Providing time for parents with frightened and ill children –
“I was in a car accident a year ago and was in the hospital for two months. Because of your generosity, my parents were with me the whole time.”
    – Katie Glad - 15 year old in car accident

Fostering economic self-sufficiency –
“We became overwhelmed with bills, letters from the insurance company and all the red tape that goes with having someone so seriously ill. Spare Key allowed us financially to be there for our son, and gave us the time to work out our finances to be able to continue to do so.”
–Trish Adams - Mother of 3 year old with Leukemia

Alleviating some of the intense anxiety associated with a loss of income –
“What a huge benefit you give families. Without your help in July, I honestly don’t know what we would have done.”
–Kris Linquist - Mother of child with hypoplastic left heart syndrome

Empowering our donors –
“You have shown me the gift of hope, healing and mercy. It is such a joy to be a part of the Spare Key program helping such wonderful families going through so much. I am definitely interested in doing this on an ongoing basis.”
–Jody Potts - Spare Key Supporter

Improving the health and well-being of children and their parents –
“It is said that when everything in a young child’s life is turned upside down, a parent can be the one constant in their life to hold on to. As a parent, when your life is turned upside down because of your child’s critical illness, you are made aware of the value of every day, every minute and Spare Key made being there for and with my child possible.”
–Trish Adams - Mother of 3 year old with Leukemia

Strengthening families –
“Your prayers, kind acts, kind words, cards, and gift of a mortgage, give us strength that we pass on to Max to continue the fight, and fight he has.”
–Paul Adams - Father of three-year old with leukemia

Preserving the dignity and respect of families in crisis –
“The Spare Key application process was respectful and not nearly as grueling and degrading as others. Due to the dual-income we had before I took the unpaid leave through Family Medical Leave Act, we didn’t qualify for any other assistance. It is also refreshing to deal with people who have been where I am and know what life is like in our situation.”
–Carol Klein - Mother of infant with cancer

Offering hope during hopeless times –
“You gave us hope that things would be okay, during a time when we thought things would never be okay again.”
–Kim Lovrich - Mother of child with trisomy 13

Preventing the loss of homes -
“Without Spare Key, I don’t think I would be writing you this note from my kitchen table in the house in which we still live.”
–James Jamar - Father of deceased twins

Provides some security/insurance for the “what if” –
“I sincerely hope that my family will never need your assistance, but I am comforted knowing that my small donation will help you be there for us or other families who may need your help.”
–Cathleen Reiman - Spare Key supporter

We had thought this stay would be short, about 4-10 days. But here we are, 22 days later!
